Switched off, it's a quiet piece of decor — clean white panels, a tiered pagoda roof, the calm of a temple lantern. Switched on, every side of it lights up with one of your photographs, layer by layer, in soft warm light.

Each lantern is 3D-printed to order in our Secunderabad studio using the same lithophane technique as our moon lamps: your photo is built up in thousands of fine layers, so the image only appears when the light passes through it.

Photo tips for the best print

• Clear, well-lit photos with faces close to the camera give the best results
• Square photos, or photos with the subject in the centre, work best for the 9 × 9 cm panels
• Group shots and dark photos lose detail
• On WhatsApp, send photos as a Document (not a compressed photo) or select HD quality, so we get the clearest version
